What is Wild Swimming?

Wild swimming is the hugely enriching and energising activity of swimming in open water such as the ocean, rivers and lakes, whether it’s in a swimming costume or wetsuit.

Wild Swimming has many physical and psychological benefits and people all around the country are discovering this invigorating pastime.

It can help your mental health, ease sore muscles, improve the quality of your sleep and just make you feel invigorated and ready for anything.

Safety

As with anything involving large bodies of water, safety is key. Here are a few things to consider before embarking on any wild swim:

  • Always swim with someone.
  • Understand the location.
  • Check and understand the weather, tides and conditions.
  • Know your own fitness and ability.
  • Check for other water users.
  • Water quality / pollution.
